Jonkershuis Restaurant

Groot Constantia is home to the magical Jonkershuis restaurant. Although situated on the oldest and one of the most beautiful wine estates in the Southern Hemisphere, Jonkershuis isn't your everyday wine farm eatery - but more of a local hangout, where kids and dogs can run free while parents can enjoy top quality wine and delicious food.

The menu, now distinctly colourful, hearty and affordable was for many years overshadowed by the beautiful grounds of the wine estate and calming view of False Bay. But more recently the menu has reclaimed the spotlight and become an attraction in itself.

This can be largely attributed to a culinary injection from Chef Stefan Marais, who recently joined the Jonkershuis team. If you are familiar with Societi Bistro in Gardens, The Brasserie in Tokai or South Africa's "Chopped" Champions, then there's a big chance you've eaten something passionately crafted by the well-known 'Chef Stef'.

On the new Summer menu at Jonkersuis you will find some simple yet unforgettable dishes, like the Asian-style Pork Belly, Quinoa Superfood Salad and a Brioche Beef Burger. The dishes are light and healthy, leaving just enough room for their famous Cheese Cake - one of the oldest and tastiest treats on the menu.

It's also worth noting that the food served is of the highest quality as the Jonkershuis team, who are sincerely respectful of the environment, source local and free-range foods wherever possible.

So if you're looking for a spot to have breakfast with a view, lunch on the lawn, dinner under the stars or the event of a lifetime, this wonderful and welcoming restaurant really is one of Constantia Valley's most precious gems and one of my new favourite breakfast/wine/lunch/cake/cheese stops.
